Most Tennessee interstates either end or go through the city of Nashville, in the north-central area of the state. Because of its location, bordering Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, and Arkansas, Tennessee interstates are important to the entire region.

I-40

I-40 connects three of the state's largest cities, Memphis, Knoxville, and Nashville. This interstate enters the southwest corner of the state near Memphis, and then continues northeast to Nashville. It continues east from Nashville, and passes near Cookeville, and Knoxville. Just north of Jefferson Lake, I-40 turns south and heads into North Carolina.

I-24
This interstate makes a diagonal across the center portion of the state. It enters the northern part of the state from Kentucky, near Clarksville, TN. From Clarksville, this interstate continues to Nashville. It continues to go in a southeast direction until it crosses the Georgia border just west of Chattanooga, TN.

I-65

I-65 runs north and south through the center of the state. Like most other interstates, it runs through Nashville. I-65 heads south from Nashville all the way to the Alabama border, where it enters the state of Alabama.

Natchez Trace Parkway

The Natchez Trace Parkway begins near Nashville and continues into the state of Mississippi. The Parkway is two lanes only. No commercial vehicles are allowed to drive on the Parkway.

I-81

I-40 connects to I-81 just north of Jefferson Lake and south of Morristown. I-40 heads south, while I-81 heads northeast to Kingsport, and into the state of Virginia.

I-75

This interstate is located in the eastern region of Tennessee. It heads in a north and south direction, and passes Oak Ridge, Knoxville, Cleveland (TN), and Chattanooga.

There are several interstate in Tennessee that can get you close to your desired location. Perhaps the most inaccessible region of the state is the western half, which only has one major interstate (I-40).
